ABOUT EMILEE

In 2014, I earned a degree in Elementary Education and Language Arts from Michigan State University. In 2018, I completed my master's degree in the Master of Arts Educational Technology program.

Currently, I am a 6th and 7th grade Language and Literature teacher in Oakland County, Michigan. At my school I serve as an adviser to Student Council and the Legacy Club, which provides volunteer opportunities to our students. I am also the assistant swim coach at my school. Annually, I host student travel opportunities; in April 2019, we had a student group travel to Paris! Check out the Blog to follow my travels.  In May 2018, I traveled to Madrid, Spain with other educators across the country (pictured below).

Passions

Outside of teaching and learning, I have been involved in a few different camps since 2010. During my freshman year at Michigan State University, I joined Camp Kesem and fell in love with camp! Camp Kesem is a non-profit, student-run organization that puts on a free week-long camp for children who have/had a parent with cancer. After my first year as a fundraising coordinator, I took a more hands on roll and became the director for the rest of my undergraduate career. The 3 years I spent as a Camp Kesem Director taught me how to fundraise, recruit, train and plan a week-long camp for kids between the ages of six and sixteen.  I also worked as a Nature and Art Program Director at Dragonfly Forest which hosts children with Autism, 22Q, severe asthma, and blood disorders. Dragonfly Forest is held in northern Pennsylvania.

Currently, I am involved in a camp for children with Autism. Since the first year of Camp Tall Tree, I have attended as a volunteer counselor, and I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the company that hosts the camp. My experience with camp has not only helped me grow as an educator, but it's one of my favorite places to be! Enjoy the slideshow below:

Outside of being involved in summer camps, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and painting. One of my goals as a traveler is to visit all of the 50 states; I am currently halfway there! I consider myself to be an amateur chef and enjoy learning from cookbooks to eventually make the recipe my own. As a lifelong learner, I have set learning goals for myself to continue to grow. I am currently taking piano lessons and training for my first 10K.
